Altered Books Basics Workshop

On that day 24th February 10 a m  – 4 p m I shall be running a workshop at the Museum. A marvelous opportunity to learn the basics of the art of altered books with me. In this workshop you will investigate simple techniques to start respectfully altering a book. You will choose a book from a selection supplied that are ready for recycling. Techniques that will be covered include strengthening pages, folding, cutting cavities and making pockets whilst retaining the quality of the book as an amazing piece of flexible engineering. If time permits embellishments will be discussed and you will start to decorate the pages. At the end of the day you will have a book ready for you to continue altering. No previous experience is needed. Cost will be £45 to book please call 01296 331441 or book on line with the museum.

I have been very busy curating an exhibition at Buckinghamshire County Museum. 24 Artists have respectfully altered a book/s and the display looks wonderful thanks to the staff at the museum.

Exhibition is on until 24th February 2018.

My website was vandalised last night, and due to the security built into it, my web developer and the web hosts quickly sprung into action and restored everything. Thanks to John the developer. And thanks to the web host support team for their excellent work as well, Daniel R and Kalin D.

I’ve been so busy recently I haven’t had a chance to post updates on the blog but the important thing is I am still working hard producing new items.

I belong to a group called artistsbooksonline.com and they have tables at various specialist book fairs around the country. This coming weekend 14th and 15th November I shall be with them at the Small Publishers Fair in London.

Just received great news! Rushlight Gallery, Reepham in Norfolk have asked me to be one of their gallery artists. The gallery opened on 20th September and I wish Jules and Ernie good luck with this venture. I visited them last week and found Reepham a delightful small town ; worth a visit. The name of the gallery comes from its original use, candlemaking. As a listed building  it still has the original shelving that is now being used sensitively to display art work including two of my Observer series books.
